Advanced cardiovascular life support, often referred to by its acronym, “ACLS”, refers to a set of clinical algorithms for the urgent treatment of cardiac arrest, stroke, myocardial infarction (also known as a heart attack), and other life-threatening cardiovascular emergencies using advanced medical procedures, medications and techniques. ACLS expands on Basic Life Support (BLS) skills by teaching what to do when BLS techniques have failed.
